Palm Springs

Palm Springs SkyLocated in the sunny Coachella Valley within Southern California, Palm Springs is a beautiful resort town with something to offer everyone who lives full time, seasonally, or visits occasionally. As a desert surrounded by the San Jacinto Mountains, Palm Springs receives less than 6 inches (15.24 centimeters) of rain per year and averages more than 95% of the year for days of sunshine. The summer days between June and September average over 100°F (37°C), but the weather during all other seasons is much milder, averaging in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

Palm Springs is well-known for the many golf courses and entertainment offerings, such as the International Film Festival and the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Additionally, the desert’s neighboring cities also offer a great golfing and entertainment community, including Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Desert Hot Springs, Palm Desert, Indio, La Quinta, Bermuda Dunes, and Indian Wells.

The city also has a strong LGBT community with annual events such as the Palm Springs Gay Pride Parade, the annual White Party, and luxurious Gay and Lesbian resorts and hotels. The White Party is held during Easter weekend, which for 2009 will take place between April 10th-13th (Friday through Monday) and includes pool parties, dance parties, and much more held in various locations in Palm Springs.

Unique to the city of Palm Springs is the founding of the Desert Aids Project, which has since expanded to other neighboring cities including Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, and Indio. Desert AIDS Project provides support services to those of the desert community living with HIV/AIDS that includes medical, legal, and other services to help with recovery and treatment.
