Summer SunAround the month of May in the Palm Springs, Calif. area, the summer heat will dry up tourism and visitors who want to rent vacation homes — or will it? A quick sample of a few rental agencies around town reveals that plenty of tourists have discovered that Palm Springs is also a great place to vacation in the summer.

Hotter Days Mean Hotter Deals in Palm Springs

Most events that draw tourists are gone and just the Thursday night Villagefest street fair continues. The average high temperature for June is 104 degrees; July is 108 degrees and August 107. Such sizzle might seem sure to drive away visitors, but rental agencies have found that many families still vacation in the desert in summer. Rental agencies offer deals. Warmer Weather and Outdoor Activities

The days may be hot, but when the sun goes down, the evening breeze and warm air makes the desert perfect for barbecuing around the pool and hanging out in the evening air with family. The Fourth of July is a big weekend in the summer: The city puts on an excellent fireworks show that is visible from all over the town, thanks to the no-high-rises ordinances. The town is full of good bargains and the restaurants and streets are much less crowded—no parking problems. The Palm Springs Aerial Tram is open all summer, with a short  closing for maintenance scheduled for Sept. 13 through Oct. 1. Summer passes let tram-goers enjoy unlimited rides from May 1 through Aug. 31 for $60 dollar for adults, $30 dollars for children ages three to 12. Sometimes snow stays on the ground until June!

The Living Desert is also open with summer hours of 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. starting June 1 through Sept. 30.  A charming summer event at the Living Desert is the Father’s Day Breakfast on June 20th. Fathers get a special tour including special close-ups of the giraffe exhibit. Reservations well in advance are required.

Families have discovered that a large house will accommodate their family and all summer guests, allowing them to take advantage of summer bargains and enjoy the cooler, quiet desert evenings of summer in Palm Springs.
