Coachella 2010 Brings in the Hordes to Palm Springs and Indio

Coachella 2010

Over 100 musicians are packing the Palm Springs area this weekend — and the hotels are packed as well. Music revelers from all over the country come together for the Coachella Music Fest 2010, where huge-name musicians, such as Jay-Z, Muse, Gorillaz and many more will take the stage to perform a live concert in the neighboring city of Indio.

With shuttles and buses at the ready, and the blistering heat ready to offer event-goers plenty of warm weather, Coachella is set to have huge numbers again this year. Tickets for the April 16-18 event are almost $300 a piece, and do not include the hotel accommodations orĀ  anything else; just the music and a space to stand or sit at Coachella.

Tips for Taking on the Hot Weather in Coachella

The Coachella Valley is a desert, and many event goers seem to forget that when the excitement of the Coachella Music Festival overwhelms the senses. Since outside food and water are not allows, nor are misters or other cooling products, aside from hats and sunblock, buying water bottles at the event becomes a necessity. With thousands of revelers coming to partake in the exciting three-day concert series, security has tightened up at the event entrance, so attempting to bring in anything that is taboo by the event regulators could slow your entry, or even potentially get you booted from the event. Try some survival tips for enjoying the event and combating the desert heat.

Have some preparations for the desert heat, while staying withing event rules:

  • Bring a small towel: Blankets and umbrellas are not allowed, but small personal towels make for great seats or shade from the blazing heat. Some years there is a giant tent for shade, but it’s not guaranteed by the event site.
  • Wear a hat and sunblock: The desert sun burns. Even if you have a tan or would like one, don’t trust the blazing 100F plus heat to do the tan work for you.
  • Bring at least $10 cash per person: You might have spent almost $300 on the tickets, not to mention accommodations. Water bottles are $2 each, and vendors are your only option for food. Eat before you arrive, and be prepared to spend some cash for food and drink, especially water.
  • Don’t bring any fancy cameras: Professional video, photo and other recording are not allowed. You are allowed to bring non-professional level digital, film and disposable cameras. Leave your extended lens at home so that your camera passes inspection.
