If you love great Mexican food and good service, the Original Las Casuelas at 368 North Palm Canyon Drive in Downtown Palm Springs is a great must-try for anyone visiting the area.

The guacamole especial (pictured) is an additional delight, with decadent ranchero sauce covering a mound of chips with fresh guacamole, onions, peppers, and cheese. The shredded beef tacos are some of the juiciest and mouth-watering meat you could want for a taco. They also serve beers and margaritas to complete the experience.

The Original Las Casuelas is a casual dining experience ideal for anyone looking for a casual romantic dinner date or an outing with the family for great Mexican food. Be sure to try the fried ice cream dessert!

Overview:

Food: Traditional Mexican dishes and a few dessert items such as fried ice cream and flan.

Family or dates?: Both. They have a decent selection for the children’s menu. For couples, ask for a booth for a more intimate dining experience.

What’s Unique: Before your meal, enjoy delicious, hot, tortilla chips made fresh on the premises with a side of mild salsa. On occasion, the chips come out lukewarm, but are still delicious (hint: ask for some lemon slices and squeeze a little on the chips with a hint of salt). It is also possible generally to order in Spanish from most server staff.

Dining experience: Casual dining with Latin music in the background. Paper napkins, reasonably comfortable booth seating and a few tables that can be accommodated for larger parties. The lighting is very dim, especially at night, so bring a flashlight if you have trouble reading menus in darker ambiances. Outdoor patio seating is also available and overlooks downtown Palm Springs.

Price: Average (about $10-20 per person) – more with alcohol beverages.

Recommendations from PSR for first-time guests: Start with the guacamole especial and then pick out a combo meal (try the number 10 with shredded beef tacos, refried beans, and Mexican rice). Do not leave without trying the fried ice cream at least once.
